Building trust, is a crucial part in getting customers to buy more or even buy in the first place!

I’m going to tell you how to build trust. The first important part of building trust, involves giving away something for free to an opt-in list. You can give away a free report or a free tips and trick newsletter that has to do with your product. Give them some tips that relate to the product and why those tips will help them make more money. By simply giving them a weekly or bi-weekly newsletter with free information you are creating trust with your list.

The time of day, that you send your list each week or twice a week, is VERY important. People get used to the time that you send the email and will go on the computer at that time or shortly after. In fact, one of the most successful times of day to send an email has been proven to be 5:30 AM EST. However, that varies by industry and demographic that you are targeting. This ensures that when someone wakes up and checks their email they get yours. This will be adjusted depending on who you are targeting. You can target students by ensuring that your mail is the first thing they get when arriving home from school, for example.

Now that you’ve built trust and have a following of people opening your emails at particular days and times, you can start tinkering around with up-selling or selling on your list.  Now, let’s take a pause here for a minute because I want to point something out. If you are spending money on traffic and not getting these opt-in’s naturally, then you DO NOT want to delay the buying process by making them wait weeks until you send them your offer or product. If you are paying for them to arrive at this list, make sure you have your offer/product in the very first email. Then you can continue building trust after that so you can up-sell or sell more. Ok, let’s move on to actually making a sale.

First thing you want to do is create at least 2 segments of your list, refer to them a Segment A and B. You are going to create a split test so that you  have some sort of data to compare results again. We are going to test 2 different headlines and 2 different body texts. (You can use way more than 2 segments to split test with, but let’s do 2 for the sake of simplicity in explaining this.)

Now, you need to write 2 subject lines that will get people to open your email. Don’t try to cram in a million points here, just try to get their attention with maybe 1 interesting factor, such as “Why I Love Coffee Shops?”, this is sure to get people’s attention, but we can’t be certain so we will split test with another subject as well. Anything you can put in the subject that is NOT standard, will usually result in an open if you are building a targeted list. Here’s a really sneaky trick, put “Re:” in the subject, if you have a really catchy body text, BUT, be careful and don’t overuse this on every email.

Next we need to write the body text, I’m not going to tell you how to write your body text, I’m just going to tell you how to structure it. You should write it as if you are recommending something to a close friend and write the email as if that is the only person you are targeting.

Your structure should look something like this:

Hey Tom,

(Here you should write a benefit of your product/service)

Here’s a link -> http://linktoyourproduct.com

(Another benefit of your service, written in a personal way)

Here’s how you can get it -> http://linktoyourproduct.com

(Thank them for checking it out and tell them how great it is again)

(Close it with Sincerely, or Thank You and Your Name on the next line)

(Put a P.S. with your http://linktoyourproduct.com again and tell them something else interesting about it)
